One of our long-standing building partners contacted Lazard Plumbing to install underfloor heating in an existing extension in Hornchurch. The project came with two clear constraints: the client did not want to chase the existing floor, and the work had to be completed within a strict timeframe.

How We’ve Helped
The Challenge
Fitting underfloor heating into a room that already has a floor in place is very different from installing it in a new build. A common approach is to chase the floor, cutting channels into the existing surface so the heating pipes can be set within it. That adds disruption, mess and time, all of which the client wanted to avoid.
With a tight deadline and the existing floor to be left intact, we needed a solution that could go in quickly and allow the tiles to follow straight after.
Our Solution
We overcame this by installing 20mm high insulating panels. Because the panels are so low in height, the underfloor heating could be fitted without chasing the existing flooring.
This part of the project was completed in one day. The tiles were then installed straight over the panels the next day, keeping the project moving and on schedule.
Smart Heating Controls
In addition to the underfloor heating, we installed a Hive smart thermostat that works with the existing heating system. This gives the client smart control of their heating without needing to replace the setup they already had.
Planning Around a Tight Timeframe
Our precise planning and efficient teamwork meant we overcame the restraints of the project. We found a suitable solution for our client that left the existing floor untouched, fitted within the tight timeframe and came in at a reasonable cost.
